Narrative at the bottom.
Rear, left-to-right: Paul Zimmerman in cap, a doctor with a cigarette in his mouth, stooping over with hand on strecher and back to us is Carl Starke, Industrial Division salvage diver, and a colored attendant
In front left with his hand on the strecher is Captain Knerr, Chief, Industrial Division.
On the strecher is a young diver who had been sent to Gorgas hospital. In Gorgas they could do nothing so they sent the diver to the Gatun diving school, the only close place where there was a decompression bell that could save a diver from the bends. His name was DuBion. Pictured is the Gatun diving unit on a barge where the decompression bell was located. The young diver was from Venezuela and was unconscious at the time.
