Leslie Bastian (Biff) Clarke, Born Newport News, Virginia on May 24, 1914, died at 86 years of age on February 8, 2001. (continued below)

Biff was married to Lillian B. Clarke. He was the brother of Howard L. Clarke, Jr. and half-brother of Randall Clark. He was the father of Dale C. Clarke and Nancy Louise Clarke, both born and raised in the Canal Zone.

During the period from 1934 through 1954 he worked in the Marine Bureau Industrial Division, formerly the Mechanical Division, of the Panama Canal Company. He began as a helper in the woodshop completing an apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Shipwright rose to the position of Leadingman Shipwright Special & Assistant Dockmaster.

After a 1 year absence in the U.S., he returned to the Zone to work for the Department of the Navy Public Works Department as a Planner and Estimator. In 1959 he rejoined the Pan Canal Company Engineering & Construction Bureau - Contract & Inspection Division as a Construction Inspector.
